This is the Nippon Yell Gummy Niigata Le Lectier, made with juice from Le Lectier pears cultivated in Niigata Prefecture. Known as the “phantom pear” due to the difficulty of its production, Le Lectier is prized for its rich sweetness, smooth texture, and fragrant aroma—qualities developed through careful post-harvest ripening under strict temperature and ventilation control.
Each piece was a slightly domed, opaque yellow disc measuring approximately 2 cm in diameter and 1 cm in height, with a pronounced, ripe Western pear aroma. A noticeably firmer, more elastic chew than other entries in the series, enclosed a soft, jelly-like core.
On tasting, the chewy outer layer provided a satisfying bite before yielding to the smooth, melting texture of the inner jelly. The combination closely mimicked the sensory experience of eating a fresh, ripe Le Lectier pear. The jelly centre delivered the pear’s rich sweetness and aromatic depth, while the firmer outer gummy extended the flavour release with a more restrained juicy sweetness. The absence of acidity allowed the fruit’s natural elegance and clarity to shine through, avoiding excessive sweetness while remaining true to the pear’s distinct character.
Overall, A pear gummy that closely evokes the experience of biting into a fresh Le Lectier. Distinctly less floral and less acidic than Yamagata’s La France and well worth repurchasing.
