Sokan Dried Sweet Potato

This is the Sokan Dried Sweet Potato, made using Beni Haruka, a sweet potato variety from Tochigi Prefecture known for its high natural sweetness.

There were eight pieces in the bag, each approximately 7 cm long and about 1 cm thick. They had a vibrant orange-yellow hue and were sporadically dusted with fine white crystals across the surface. The aroma was gentle and reminiscent of roasted sweet potato.

On handling, the surface felt dry. On biting through, the texture was chewy in a manner similar to dried apricot, though less sticky and more cohesive. The sweetness was clearly derived from the sweet potato itself. It was rich and mellow, without tasting artificially sweetened or excessive. The flavour closely resembled roasted sweet potato in its natural form, with depth rather than sharpness. The chew and steady, rounded sweetness made it a satisfying snack without feeling heavy.

Overall, this was a straightforward dried sweet potato that relied on the inherent sweetness and texture of Beni Haruka rather than added embellishment.

This Sokan Dried Sweet Potato contained 45 g. It was produced in Japan and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2026.
