Dr Oetker Papa Giuseppe’s Bakehouse Crust Pizzas are our favourite pizzas. They’re good that we go to the trouble of baking the frozen pizza even when fast food options are a similar price. Being more Woolworths shoppers, we were sorely disappointed when they replaced their Australian Papa Giuseppe line with the line from the United Kingdom only to discover that they still stocked the original Australian made Dr Oetker Papa Giuseppi’s Bakehouse Crust BBQ Meatlovers Pizza at Coles.

The pizza is described as having ‘a unique crust, crispy outside, soft inside, just like freshly baked bread’ and ‘richly topped with premium cabanossi, succulent bacon, tasty beef crumble, onions, creamy mozzarella and a tangy barbecue sauce’.

Everything in the description for the pizza is true and makes eating it a pleasure. There is no comparison for the pizza crust for us – it’s crispy on the outside yet pillowy soft with pockets of air throughout the thick crust – and together with the tangy barbecue sauce, it’s a delicious combination piled high with meaty toppings and oozy cheese. The quality of these elements are lacking in the version from the United Kingdom, which is $1.50 cheaper: the ingredients are there but it lacked the richness and depth of flavour with its cardboard base.
This Dr Oetker Papa Giuseppi’s Bakehouse Crust BBQ Meatlovers Pizza contained 460 g. It was produced in Australia and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2018.
