Seeing these Smith’s Potato Chips Lamington on supermarket shelves in time for Australia Day quite surprised us as we’ve never seen a dessert flavouring a quintessentially savoury snack in Australia.

The chips were crinkle cut and dusted with a brown powder with a chocolate and coconut aroma much like a lamington. Upon tasting, an initial sweetness of chocolate came through before a bold coconut flavour in the body and salty finish. The overall flavour was very much that of a lamington, with the potato component sitting in for the sponge. While we’re impressed by the faithful lamington flavour we’re not fans of this particular rendition (maybe it’s the coconut?) despite having enjoying chocolate covered potato chips previously.
