In 2023, Koko Black introduced a collection of mooncakes to celebrate the mid-autumn festival. These mooncakes were offered both as a set and as individual options, featuring four distinct flavours: coconut pandan, matcha red bean, crispy almond caramel, and cherry pistachio.
Among these flavours, the coconut pandan variety particularly piqued our interest.

This mooncake measured 5 cm in diameter and stood at a height of 2 cm. It featured a coconut macaroon biscuit sandwiched by pandan-infused coconut ganache, and enveloped in a shell of 54% dark chocolate.

Upon tasting, the coconut macaroon contributed a chewy texture and a pleasant coconut flavour. The pandan-flavoured coconut ganache, on the other hand, exhibited remarkable smoothness and a velvety texture, offering a subtle hint of pandan that resembled an enhanced Ferrero Raffaello in both taste and texture. The crisp dark chocolate shell provided a striking contrast to the softness of the ganache and chewy macaroon. Its bold and intense dark chocolate character emerged towards the latter part of each bite, owing to its higher melting point, delivering a rich and intense dark chocolate finish. This subtle bitterness elegantly balanced the earlier sweetness. In summary, this ‘mooncake’ offered a highly enjoyable taste experience that celebrated the individual components without one overpowering the others.
This Koko Black Mooncake Coconut Pandan contained 45 g. It was produced in Australia and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2023.
