The sweet and tangy notes of ume have me entranced so I was delighted to find this Lupicia Ume Vert.

The tea is a looseleaf ‘blend of Japanese green tea and white tea gently scented with Japanese plum flavour’.

Steeping 3 g of looseleaf in 200 mL of water at 75°C for 90 seconds, the tea was a clear, light yellow-green colour with the sweet and tangy aroma of ume. Served hot, those same bright sweet and tangy notes of ume came through ahead of a gentle vegetal quality from the sencha that emerged in the body before finishing with the delicate, mild sweetness of the white tea. In the first brew, the lightness of the white tea provides the perfect base for the refreshing notes of the ume. Subsequent steeps of the tea see the ume flavour persisting but the vegetal notes of the green tea increasing in prominence.

This Lupicia Ume Vert contained 50 g. The tea was sourced from Japan and China, packaged in Japan, and purchased in Australia in 2021.
