Fukujuen Lemon Sencha

This Fukujuen Lemon Sencha is the last of the flavours we picked up from their store during our trip to Uji, Kyōto in 2015.

The tea consisted of a pyramid tea bagged sencha blended with lemon peel and scented with lemon flavour.

Steeping one 2 g tea bag in 150 mL of water at 75ºC for 70 seconds, the infusion was a clear pale yellow-green colour with a zesty lemon aroma. Served hot, fresh notes of lemon juice came through before a refreshing zestiness came through in the body. A mellow vegetal sencha lingered in the background throughout the sip, coming to a prominence in the finish as the lemon notes recede and lingering pleasantly with minimal astringency in the aftertaste.

Steeping a second time in 150 mL of water at 75ºC for 90 seconds, the vegetal notes of the sencha take prominence with the zestiness of the lemon coming through briefly at the head of each sip before receding swiftly. The overall flavour recalled the yuzu flavoured sencha with a sweeter profile compared to the more acidic and bitter notes of the yuzu.

This Fukujuen Lemon Sencha contained 5x 2 g tea bags. It was produced in Japan and purchased in Uji, Kyōto, Japan in 2015.
