We picked up this Tokunaga Farm Miyazaki Handmade Syrup Hyūganatsu after receiving a sample during our visit to Takachiho Gorge.

The syrup comes in a square bottle with a recommended solution ratio of 1 part syrup to 8 parts water.

The syrup is an opaque yellow colour with fine hyūganatsu rind suspended throughout and a bright, sweet citrus aroma.

Diluted with 1 part syrup to 8 parts carbonated water, the drink captured the sweet-sour flavour of the fresh fruit. The flavour begins with a pleasant zesty acidity that recalled a lemon before giving way to an enjoyable pomelo-like sweetness that developed to a richer honey-like finish. Overall, the drink was remarkably refreshing and its flavour and appearance recall a similar drink made from yuzu but with a rounder sweetness and restrained zestiness or mikan but with a more restrained and crisper sweetness.

This Tokunaga Farm Miyazaki Handmade Syrup Hyūganatsu contained 200 ml. It was produced in Japan and purchased in Takachiho, Japan in 2019.
