This is the Panntea Panda Oolong Milk Tea ($7.90, less ice, regular sweetness). It featured black tapioca pearls, white agar pearls and oolong jelly.
When consumed chilled, the oolong base made its presence known with a vibrant, subtly roasted tea flavour. Its inherent freshness and sweetness were skillfully enhanced by the corresponding sweetness levels of the drink itself. The assortment of three toppings introduced an engaging medley of textures. Notably, the oolong jelly cubes emerged as the standout, contributing delightful bursts of tea-infused flavour. However, the white agar pearls seemed somewhat mismatched with the dairy-based beverage; our preference for white agar pearls tends to lean toward non-dairy drinks. Meanwhile, the black tapioca pearls exhibited an unexpected contrast between their firm centres and soft exteriors, hinting at potential undercooking. On the whole, the milk tea and the jelly components combined to create an intriguing and enjoyable beverage. Regrettably, the ‘panda’ elements failed to leave a distinct impression.
