For all the alcoholic beverages in the archives, we’re very casual drinkers who are more interested in trying new flavoured drinks than any interest in the buzz. So, we like to check out the clearance section at Dan Murphy’s for any marked down items. Usually, the items still have ample time until expiry and are only marked down because they’re singles rather than a pack – perfect for people wanting to try something new.
This find here is the Smirnoff Pure Passionfruit, Lime & Soda. We’d passed on this earlier simply because anything other than cider and sake easily sends us tipsy.
The drink was a translucent pale straw colour with a fruity passionfruit nose. Served chilled, a less pronounced passionfruit flavour came through with a subtle sweetness in the head against moderately bitter notes of vodka in the background the peaked in the body before giving way to fresh zesty lime notes and a crisply clean and lightly acidic finish with unsweetened notes of passionfruit lingering on the palate in the aftertaste. While we’d have enjoyed brighter passionfruit notes, there is a perfect balance between the sweet and bitter notes that make this a light and refreshing summer drink.
