Schnitz, Ryde

Five years after our first encounter with Schnitz in Melbourne, the chain has expanded around Australia, and we make a visit to the one in Ryde ahead of some shopping.

This is a Parma & Chips ($12.90) with a pan cooked beef schnitzel covered in a crumb of herb (oregano, basil and parsley) and Parmesan cheese, and topped with Napoli sauce and mozzarella cheese and a side of sweet potato chips.

The schnitzel is tender and juicy with a crisp crumb while the sauce and cheese added an enjoyable tang and savoury flavour. The sweet potato chips, though, were the most pleasant surprise being very crispy on the inside while fluffy on the inside with a generous dusting of seasoning that became a too salty by the end.

This is the Schnitzel & Chips ($10.90) with a pan cooked beef schnitzel covered in a spicy crumb of chilli, Spanish paprika, lemon and garlic, accompanied by a side of original chips.

D enjoyed the notable heat delivered by the spicy crumb over his similarly tender and juicy schnitzel, while his chips had the same crispy outside – fluffy inside texture as the sweet potato but without the sweetness.

Schnitz is located at Shop GRD-R3004, Top Ryde City, corner Blaxland Rd and Devlin St, Ryde NSW 2112.
