We tried these Mrs Quick Sausage Rolls from the freezer on the recommendation that they taste ‘amazing’ when brushed with milk.
Each box contained 1 kg worth of sausage rolls, which come in 12 ‘lunch’ size rolls (pictured above) that they recommend can be further halved for 24 ‘arvo snacks’ or quartered for 48 ‘nibbles’. The meat filling is made up of 48% ground beef and 13% onion.
The sausage rolls are prepared by brushing tops with beaten egg or milk and baking in a preheated oven at 220ºC for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
The puff pastry on the sausage rolls puffs up considerably on baking.
The perfectly flaky puff pastry is impressive on these sausage rolls, but the meat filling is a disappointment with the smell and taste of onion overwhelming the flavour of the meat as well as giving it a mushy and soft texture that takes away from the heartiness of a sausage roll. For those who enjoy the taste and texture of onion, though, at $7.50 (and occasionally half price) these sausage rolls are a very affordable alternative to the meatier flavour from single serves by Mrs Macs.
