Leatherwood honey is a rare wild honey collected from the nectar of the Leatherwood tree, a descendant of the ancient Gondwana forests that still thrive in the remote World Heritage-listed western Tasmanian wilderness.

This is the Koko Black Tasmanian Leatherwood Honeycomb Milk Chocolate, which contains 34% milk chocolate (with minimum cocoa solids of 34%) and 9% leatherwood honey.

Each 100 g box contained about six generously sized pieces.

Each piece was very dense and firm, delivering an audible snap that immediately released the fragrant floral aroma of the honey. The milk chocolate coating swiftly melted to a rich, creamy smoothness before the floral notes of the honeycomb returned, this time with a subtle spicy, piquant quality. As the chocolate receded, the honey took center stage, melting slowly on the palate. The density of these honeycomb pieces surprised us, as we expected a lighter and more aerated texture rather than the toffee brittle texture. Nevertheless, we enjoyed the rich leatherwood honey flavour alongside the creamy smooth milk chocolate, both of which matched the luxurious price tag ($18.90/100 g).
