We first learned about Nuts 4 Nuts from a YouTube video detailing its deep-rooted origins in New York City. When family members visited the United States, we seized the opportunity to try some for ourselves.

Each box contained one bag each of honey-roasted pecans, honey-roasted pistachios, honey-roasted hazelnuts, and honey-roasted coconuts.

Honey-Roasted Pecans

The honey coating was impeccable, creating a crisp, thin layer around each pecan. However, while the pecans tasted fresh, the husk left on them imparted a notable astringency mid-bite that the honey’s sweetness couldn’t mask, resulting in a bitterness that lingered on the palate.

Honey-Roasted Pistachios

The honey and sugar coating was slightly darker than usual, providing a deeper, less sugary sweetness. The pistachios were also well-roasted, delivering a rich nutty flavour. The natural savoury notes of the pistachio balanced well with the sweetness, and a subtle, enjoyable roasty bitterness emerged at the end. This was our favourite of the four varieties and a unique offering not often found in Sydney. We would easily repurchase these given the opportunity.

Honey-Roasted Hazelnuts

These honey-roasted hazelnuts had a rich, roasted nutty flavour without any bitterness or lingering astringency, making them preferable to the pecans. The thin, crisp honey coating contrasted nicely with the softer crunch of the nuts. While addictive, we missed the darker caramel flavour present in the pistachios.

Honey-Roasted Coconuts

These honey-roasted coconuts were our least favourite. They lacked the caramelised crunch of the nuts, instead having a soft toffee-like coating. The coating provided a good amount of sweetness for the coconut chunks, which required a long chew. They tasted similar to pandan coconut caramels from Vietnam, but without the grassy vanilla notes of pandan and with a different texture.

Overall, our foray into the premium range of honey-roasted nuts from Nuts 4 Nuts was impressive. We deeply appreciated the darker roast of the nuts and the thinner caramelisation of the coating, with each nut individually coated and free from chunks of nut-less sugar.
