Darrell Lea hosted a block swap in Westfield Parramatta from 25-27 October, encouraging chocaholics to ‘swap any boring block of chocolate for one of [their] amazing new flavours’. (The swapped chocolate bars were donated to Oz Harvest.) These flavours — Gold Coast Road Trip and Harbour Fireworks — weren’t released for sale until mid-November, so eager to be one of the first in Australia to treat out taste buds to these limited edition flavours, we swapped for one of each. This one here is the Darrell Lea Milk Chocolate Gold Coast Road Trip.

It’s described as being ‘packed with soft dried pineapple chunks balanced with crunchy honeycomb and tropical toasted coconut’.

This chocolate block has a nutty coconut aroma, while on tasting, it’s the crunch from the honeycomb that came through before the milk chocolate melts on contact for a slightly nutty sweetness ahead of the sweet acidity from the chewy pineapple chunks that add a fruitiness and tropical finish to the chocolate. Overall, the mix of textures and the acidity of the pineapple created an interesting flavour, but we would’ve enjoyed a more punchy flavour to the pineapple in addition to the current acidity as a source of relief from the sweetness.
This Darrell Lea Milk Chocolate Gold Coast Road Trip contained 165 g. It was produced in Australia and received as a swap with the company in Sydney, Australia in 2019.
